NIME2025 – Entangled NIME

Keynote: Peter Blamey
Novel Interactions with Materials and Energies / Entangle Me in Noise

This keynote, rather than a traditional lecture, is instead made up of realisations of several interrelated performance works. These works all explore the experiential capacities of small-scale and local energy sourcing in relation to environmental and artefactual forms of light, where sound, alongside its aesthetic aspects, functions as an indicator of physical processes in action. Using everyday materials and simple, open-form performative strategies that place performer and device on an equal footing, these works both play on and with the possibilities for realising, rethinking and relating to the immaterial energetic aspects of our environment.

Avantwhatever Commissions Launch and Listening Party with Peter Blamey, Stephen Cornford, Charmaine Lee, and Ben Byrne

Avantwhatever premieres the first in our new series of audiovisual commissions of digital sound, art, and design, presenting works from artists Charmaine Lee (New York), Stephen Cornford (Bristol), and Peter Blamey (Sydney) on Friday 26 May in the RMIT Black Box space in Naarm, with an introduction from curator Ben Byrne.

The commissions will be hosted on our dedicated audiovisual server and website, using the open web and peer-to-peer technology to make them freely accessible and discoverable using decentralised social media, as will be demonstrated as part of the event.

The first three commissions will be presented on the night, ahead of publication, using the RMIT Digital Media Black Box’s bespoke audiovisual system to offer an ideal listening and viewing environment.

Commissions from experimental vocalist Charmaine Lee, and media artist and researcher Stephen Cornford will be premiered, followed by a live performance from commissioned musician and artist Peter Blamey.

Free by RSVP, with attendees added to the Avantwhatever mailing list.

20 November 2021

Things have been pretty quiet in 2021 – no surprises there. A revamp of the site has seen the end of the old blog-style news page (something I was never a fan of) replaced with this simpler page. Also, the site now has a dark background, saving some energy and removing the ‘art gallery’ feel of the old white background (another thing I wasn’t keen on).

Not expecting to have any upcoming events until 2022, but then again you never know.
