Lava Cloudsexplores materials, traces, luminosity and waste by drawing energy from candescing ‘clouds’ of steel wool. The output from a photovoltaic (or solar) panel is connected directly to an audio system (amplifier, PA, etc.) so that fluctuations in current from the panel produced by the glowing and sparking steel wool are realised as sound.
