In the Mouth

2020

In the Mouth is a performance work that explores how light isn’t just outside us, or on our skin, but literally enters our bodies in a variety of ways. The initial recorded version, Sun in the Mouth, can be read about here. This was later developed into a more generalised performable version, where a small solar panel connected to an amplifier is (unsurprisingly) placed in the mouth. Pressing the panel hard against the wall of the mouth allows light, which passes right through the cheek, to be amplified. Hand movements then block the light, rhythmically or otherwise.
