PERFORMANCE AND CLOSING PARTY
3pm Saturday 14 April 2018
Peter Blamey is a Sydney-based artist. His work explores sound, energies and residues, and the relationships between people, technologies and environments. Often his practice sees him establishing interactions between disparate everyday materials to make performances, artworks and installations aimed (in part) at reimagining accepted notions of connectivity, variability and use. He was part of both Outposts and The Last Bastion at last year’s Dark Mofo, and has been eager to return to Hobart ever since!
Peter is a SOCA Artist in Residence.
Suite 7, Level 1, Moonah Centre.
Enter from Hopkins St, up the stairs.
Open Saturdays 10 – 4 and by appointment
Opening with a festival of live performances, Material Sound brings together 6 contemporary artists who each create an experience of sound within installations and apparatus constructed from everyday materials.
Curated by Caleb Kelly, Material Sound features newly commissioned work by artists Vicky Browne, Pia van Gelder, Caitlin Franzmann, Peter Blamey, Ross Manning, and Eric Demetriou.
The artists in Material Sound challenge the stability of materials in their practice. Handmade instruments and electronics, recycled electronic components, outmoded technologies, fake technologies, imagined sounds and silences will form a series of dynamic installations that challenge the way we think about materiality in a cumulative sound experience.
Opening festival, Friday 9 – Sunday 11 Feb
